A majority of these trips for 2023 are for Student Ministry (7th-12th Grade). The West Jordan, Utah Trip (May 26th-June 3rd) is our family mission trip and is open to the entire church body. For any questions about these trips, please contact lauren@ibcshawnee.org.
West Jordan, Utah (Family Mission Trip, May 26th-June 3rd)
Utah has incredible natural beauty with its amazing mountain ranges, and is home to some of the kindest people anywhere. Salt Lake City is the largest city in the state as well as the world headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite its reputation as a religious city, there is only one Southern Baptist church per 40,460 people. Sadly, over 97% of the people do not know Jesus as Lord. This trip is open to any members of our church, whether you come as an individual, or you come as a whole family. Join us as we work alongside the Stottman family at HopeValley Church by doing park ministry, prayer-walking, and other school and community projects.
Student Mission Trips:
West Jordan, Utah
Utah has incredible natural beauty with its amazing mountain ranges and is home to some of the kindest people anywhere. Salt Lake City (14 miles north of West Jordan) is the largest city in the state as well as the world headquarters for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite its reputation as a religious city, there is only one Southern Baptist Church per 40,460 people. Sadly, over 97% of the people do not know Jesus as Lord. Our students will be working with the Stottman family hosting block parties, engaging neighbors, and reaching thousands of homes with news about a brand-new church
Miami, Florida
South Florida is home to 27 of the 400 richest people in America. The region is often viewed as a 76-degree paradise, dripping in bling and boasting the best nightclubs, bay-front mansions and flashy cars. It is home to celebrities and pro athletes as well as business moguls and fashion models. But paradoxically, the population of many of its citizens fall below the federal poverty line. Rich or poor, famous or not so much, one thing is certain: The people of South Florida need Christ. In this dense population zone, 79% of the population is lost. Our students will be partnering with church planters to offer something beyond what money can buy, which is real hope in the good news of Christ!
Portland, Oregon
It is the home of hipsters and the largest city in Oregon. It is known for its parks, bridges, and bicycle paths, as well as for its eco-friendliness and coffeehouses. Portland has been cited as the least religious city in America. Many of the residents are young, independent thinkers. Portland provides the perfect opportunity for those interested in reaching the next generation. Our students will work along passionate church planters to advance the kingdom through park ministry, community projects, and personal evangelism.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Known for its cowboy culture and capitol complex, surrounded by working oil wells, the Oklahoma City metro area is home to over 1.3 million people and is at the heart of our state. It has a lot to be proud of, but has its struggles as well. Poverty, hunger, and homelessness are just a few of the needs that God has given his people the opportunity to meet. Our students will be going to OKC to share the Gospel while working in apartment complexes, doing block parties, serving and counseling at a mission center, and collecting canned goods.
